Domaine Artefact

2018 Roussanne

White Wine

The Domaine Artefact 2018 Roussanne is a full-bodied white wine offers aromas of Asian pear, honey, orange rind and stone fruits. It is medium bodied with an oil texture that is rich on the palate, with an amazing complexity of grapefruit, apricots, apple compote, candied ginger and citrus curd. The finish is savory sweet with notes of vanilla, key lime and spice.

The Roussanne from Domaine and Camp4 were fermented in stainless steel tanks separately for about three weeks at 58-60o F. The wine was left on fine lees without batonnage for ten weeks, then racked to 20% new French oak puncheons and to stainless steel barrels for nine months of aging before bottling.

Roussanne pairs well with buttery meats like lobster, crab, foie gras, and pâté.

Roussanne is a key ingredient in the white wine blends of the northern Rhone, notably Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage and Saint-Joseph, and in the sparkling wines of Saint-Peray. Further south in the Rhone Valley, it is used in small quantities in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, where it is one of 13 grape varieties permitted for use in both red and white wines.
