Meet the Owners

Mark & Lynn

Mark and Lynn met as undergraduates while attending UCLA. After graduation, Mark received his B.A. in Biology and pursued a career as a fisheries biologist for the State of California in Northern California. After which he began teaching high school biology at De LaSalle before eventually moving to Southern California to teach chemistry at Vista High School.

Lynn comes from a military family, allowing her to travel extensively while growing up. In her early career, she pursued architecture, which ultimately led to a successful career in commercial real estate. Lynn is a passionate horse rider who shares Mark’s affinity for wine.

Together, they have built the Estate from the ground up, sharing all responsibilities beginning with the vision of the estate to planning, planting, and management.

Over the last 30 years, Mark and Lynn have immersed themselves in the world of oenology and viticulture. Their travels abroad have provided the great fortune to experience wine from some of the best wine regions of the world.

The South Coast AVA

The South Coast AVA

Lynn imbues Domaine Artefact with her warm spirit, generous hospitality while Mark, the self-taught winemaker, brings his evolved palate, know-how, and passion to craft wines for Domaine Artefact. We invite you to join us on their wine journey!

We are earth friendly!

Domaine Artefact is a thriving, sustainable estate, uncompromising in its farming standards and its stewardship of the land. We are committed to maintaining our vineyards to the highest of standards. Our philosophy is “great wine begins in the vineyard”, and we are dedicated to sparing no expense to grow the highest quality of fruit for our wines.

WE LEAD BY EXAMPLE

Zero Carbon Footprint

At Domaine Artefact, we are committed to leaving zero carbon footprint. In efforts to achieve this, we focus only on sustainable vineyard practices to cultivate our fruit and wines. Additionally, we ship our wines solely in Styrofoam free boxes and invest in 100% recycled material for our shipping and marketing needs. Our goal is to be completely reliant on solar power for all energy consumption by the end of 2018.

A SELF-SUPPORTING ECOSYSTEM

Permaculture

We are guided by principles of permaculture in our approach to farming and as such, are keen on growing our organic fruits and vegetables and sharing our harvests locally. At Domaine Artefact, we are committed to transforming the Estate by exclusively planting native species to create a balanced, regenerative, and self-supporting ecosystem.

MEET THE FAMILY

Farm Animals & Wildlife

Domaine Artefact is home to our family of animals including dogs, horses, pigs, and chickens. On your visit, you are likely to see our “wine dogs” lazing about the tasting room. We are “pet-friendly” and encourage guests to bring their well-behaved fur-children.

In addition to our domesticated inhabitants, Domaine Artefact provides habitat to coyotes, bobcats, red-tailed hawks, barn owls, kites, red-winged blackbirds, roadrunners, finches (common, and gold), quail, meadowlarks, bluebirds, killdeer, hummingbirds, tree frogs, toads, gophers, voles, and ground squirrels.
